Membership Rules Change. As you may know, our membership rules have been changed by Central Office. Future joiners will no longer all renew on the same date, but rather anniversary / renewal dates will occur 12 months from joining. Additionally, we will all have to pay extra if we require hard copies of the journal and INSIGHT Magazines. If you have not had an email to let you know this, it may be that we do not have your correct details. Please go to www.incoseonline.org.uk and provide them or change them yourself, could you also please email uk.admin@incose.org. This change to the membership procedure started on 1st March this year, however current members will continue to have their renewal date on 1st June. Please read the articles on pages 6 and 7 of the Summer Preview for more details.

DoDAF and MODAF Modelling to Unite. A new industry standards group, the UPDM Group, has been established to build on previous efforts within the Object Management Group (OMG) to develop a modeling standard that supports both the US Department of Defense Architecture Framework (DoDAF) and the UK’s Ministry of Defence Architecture Framework (MODAF). The modeling standard is called the Unified Profile for DoDAF and MODAF (UPDM). The group’s mission statement is the following: “The UPDM Group is committed to creating a unified profile for MODAF and DoDAF, leveraging the capabilities of UML, SysML and other OMG standards.” Read the full press release here: http://updmgroup.org/.

INCOSE in the News. Following the recent “interesting times” at Heathrow Terminal 5, BBC’s Newsnight ran a feature on the difficulties inherent in building large complex systems. BBC contacted INCOSE and asked for an expert to join Heinz Wolff and talk to Gavin Essler as part of the feature. Allen Fairbairn responded to the request and took part in an interesting discussion. The programme is available on BBC’s iPlayer for the next few days: http://www.bbc.co.uk/iplayer/page/item/b009ny9v.shtml (wind forward to 18 mins 25 seconds for the start of the article). Well done Allen for making himself available at short notice and flying the SE flag.

UK Advisory Board Continues to Grow. The UK Advisory Board provides advice to the INCOSE UK Board on the practice, dissemination, training, accreditation and advancement of Systems Engineering within UK Industry and academia. The UKAB has grown dramatically during the past year, with 20 companies represented. Recent members include Halcrow, Horizon, GCHQ, Vega Group, The Salamander Organisation and The University of Bristol.

The Guide to Competency Evaluation (Word) document is now available for download. Please see the Products page for the competency framework  and other guides such as the One Page Guides to Systems Engineering.

Reach out to over 750 Systems Engineers - Advertise in Preview and ePreview. Preview and ePreview are sent to every INCOSE UK Member.  Copies are often made available at local group events, and an electronic copy can be downloaded by visitors to our web site.  Each edition will be read by over 500 systems engineering professionals, giving a unique path to a clearly defined market segment.  You can benefit from this exposure by advertising your company, product or service in Preview and ePreview, for as little as £250 for a full page colour advertisement in Preview, or £300 for a paragraph and link in ePreview.  For further details, and special member rates, contact our Administrator, John Mead, at john.mead@incose.org.

INCOSE ENHANCES CAREER SERVICES   INCOSE has partnered with JobTarget to deliver a full-featured job site developed explicitly for the systems engineering community.  Individuals can post their resume free of charge and create personal alerts so that they are notified when opportunities are available. Employers can search the resume database and post job openings.  You are all encouraged to use this benefit -  details are at http://www.incose.org/newsevents/news/details.aspx?id=96, and at http://jobsconnection.incose.org/.
