Why Brighton?

Brighton scene Brighton remote.gif (536 bytes), on the south coast of England, is less than 30 miles from London Gatwick Airport and only 60 miles from Heathrow. Brighton offers a range of accommodations, superb shopping, more than 400 restaurants, and lots of seaside activities! It’s the perfect place from which to explore the Sussex countryside, or to plan a day trip to London - everything needed to create a balanced programme for an International Symposium.

Sight-Seeing and Recreation

Pavillion.gif (9551 bytes)Brighton’s seven miles of sea-front offer a wide variety of activities. Stroll along the promenade and view the historic piers: the Palace Pier featuring amusements, souvenir shops and traditional fish and chips, and the West Pier, designated an historic landmark and currently undergoing preservation and restoration. Visit the Sealife Centre, the Brighton Museum and Art Gallery, and The Lanes, a combination of 18th and 19th century buildings based on Brighton’s original medieval street plan where the narrow winding alleyways are full of pubs, restaurants and shops. Plan a visit to The Royal Pavilion, King George IV’s exotic palace created by architect John Nash for the then Prince Regent. You’ll view exquisite furniture and works of art as you wander through the beautifully restored rooms of this dazzling summer palace which changed Brighton from a sleepy seaside village to a fashionable community giving rise to elegant white and cream Regency terraces, squares and crescents.
